It's Not Good News-
It's The Best News Ever!
I recently received a phone call from the AWW Superintendent, Matthew Laroche, that I have been chosen as the first artist-in-residence of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway visiting Artist program. This is a particular honor for me not only for being the first Artist chosen for the of the AWW Visiting Artist Program but to have the privilege of doing it on the AWW's 50th anniversary!
This is a two-week residency in August that I intend to do up to 50 of initial plein air paintings during my stay followed up by larger works in my studio throughout the following year. In the first week between August 1st to August 8th I will host a one-day watercolor workshop for the public and I will supply participants with equipment and art supplies, or they can bring their own, for a unique opportunity to paint with me en plein air for the day. I will have more details about the workshop and the exact date later on this month that will be posted on my website.
In the second week of August I will be in the Rangeley Lake region where I will teach a plein air watercolor workshop on the Artists Trail through the Rangeley Friends of the Arts between Tuesday August 11th to Friday August 14th. Then I will return for a second week to the Allagash Wilderness waterway to complete the second phase of my visiting Artist program.
In my second AWW residency week from August 15th to August 22nd, I will be continuing to paint small studies and host a public Open Studio at the end of the week. This is when I will do an artist talk at my cabin and show 50 or more paintings from my portfolio that I have painted en plein air on location from both weeks.
In a time when we are asked to social distance with each other and quarantine ourselves, I feel so blessed to be the first to do just that and use this time to immerse myself in a pure wilderness experience that will be visually informative and documented as a meaningful lifetime experience. Thanks to all of those who have encouraged me to apply for this visiting Artist program and AWW Superintendent Matthew LaRoche and the selection committee for choosing me. I hope to make you all proud of the programs that will occur this summer and the gallery shows that will follow this residency in the future at the Gleason Fine Art Gallery in Boothbay Harbor and the Yarmouth Frame and Art Gallery in Yarmouth, Maine.
